June 2012

Bits and pieces, bits and pieces, but in reality not overly much to get you drooling with excitement.

4/6 - Dexys - One Day I'm Going To Soar (BMG)

The first new album in seventeen years from Kevin Rowland, Mick Talbot and the new Dexys. Look out for some interesting interviews in the press.

4/6 - The Hives - Lex Hives (Disque Hives)

Another band making a reappearance after a prolonged absence, it being some five years now since the last outing from the Swedish garage rockers.

4/6 - Patti Smith - Banga (Columbia)

Another ghost from the past as Patti re-emerges after a five-year hibernation with her eleventh studio album. How many reviews will fail to mention Horses?

4/6 - David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust (40th Anniversary) (EMI)

Forty years on from the release of Bowie's most essential recording, we get another reissue which quite frankly can't really add much to the all the other recent reissues. Interesting to see that Uncut have rated this brilliant album as not as good as Plastic Bertrand's An Un. The mind is still boggling.

Through June - Everything But The Girl - Remasters (Edsel)

The best handled set of reissues this month with Eden, Love Not Money, Baby The Stars Shine Bright and Idlewild all repackaged in 2CD casebound book sets which are being released in stages from late May through June. The original albums are accompanied by non-album a- and b-sides, unreleased home demos and BBC radio sessions. The accompanying booklets contain the lyrics, notes on the albums from the band and previously unseen photographs. And all for nine quid each.

Arriving June - Medicine - Remasters (Captured Tracks)

The utterly fabulous Shot Forth Self Living and The Buried Life have been given the treatment by this American label and saw the light of day in the USA last month (along with a fabulous looking box set which does not seem to be available over here). Now available in the UK in nice 2CD packages, but watch out as they are fairly expensive imports.

18/6 - Savages - Husbands (Pop Noire)

Debut seven inch vinyl release from the up and coming Londoners. Available on pre-release from Pop Noire, this may well be an impossible-to-find release in the months to come. Invest in a copy now.

Through June - Sugar - Remasters (Edsel)

All the Creation recordings from Sugar and Bob Mould have been given an overhaul and will be released in stages from late May through June. Copper Blue, Beaster, File Under Easy Listening, Bob Mould and The Last Dog & Pony Show have been remastered and are released in 2CD or 3CD packages featuring all the b-sides, radio sessions, live tracks, promo videos and are accompanied by extensive booklets. Good work.
