July 2012

It's slowing down over the summer holidays, but there are one or two bits worth having a look at.

Out Now - The Beat - Reissues (Edsel)

Another good job done with the repackaging and remastering of the three albums by The Beat: I Just Can't Stop It, Wha'ppen? and Special Beat Service, all available in 2CD + DVD packages. The original albums are remastered and accompanied by every a-side and b-side of the singles, the 12" mixes, live tracks and BBC Radio sessions. The DVDs include all the promotional videos, along with television appearances and documentaries.

2/7 - Go-Kart Mozart - On The Hot Dog Streets (W Midlands)

Former Felt eccentric Lawrence with his new album from his latest band.

2/7 - Artmagic - Become The One You Love (Artmagic)

Former Suede guitarist Richard Oakes releases his eleven-track debut on his own label. We'll be interested to see how this one turns out.

9/7 - The View - Cheeky For A Reason (Cooking Vinyl)

Difficult days for indie rock bands at the moment and Dundee's finest are not enjoying the success they captured in the heady days of indie's mainstream popularity. Bravely, they have stuck to their guns and remain resiliently awkward.

30/7 - Blur - 21 (Parlophone)

The definitive anthology of Blur’s career, including 21 discs and including over 5½ hours of previously unreleased material. Here we have collected together the remastered and expanded editions of all the albums, four discs of rarities, three DVDs of live performances and rarities, a collectable 7’’ single and a hardback book - all housed in a super-deluxe material-covered box. Each box will also include a code to download all the audio contents as high-quality mp3s. It ain't cheap, retailing at just over £130, with a vinyl version adding another tenner to that. But it looks bloody nice.

Out Now - Robert Hampson - Répercussions (Editions Mego)

Import only release from the former Loop man who continues to push sonic boundaries. Quite pricey, though.

Coming Soon

Not a huge amount on the cards, with labels tending to hold fire for the run down to Christmas, but we're looking forward to The Complete Studio Recordings by Roxy Music, featuring their eight albums, bonus tracks and four DVDs.
